Why Tiffany Haddish Told Jordan Peele No When He Asked Her To Audition For Get Out
Spoilers ahead for Get Out.
Tiffany Haddish and Jordan Peele had very good years in 2017. After already being in the business for quite some time, they both had breakout moments that have changed the trajectory of their respective careers. Peele directed and wrote new classic horror movie Get Out, picking up an Oscar on the way. Meanwhile, Haddish had a star making moment in Girls Trip, and has been booking a ton of work since. The two actually worked together on Keanu, and now it turns out that Peele asked Haddish to audition for a role in Get Out. But apparently, horror movies aren't something she's super interested in. As she tells it,
He asked me to audition for it. When he let me read it and asked me to audition, I was like, 'Man, look, I don't do scary movies, dog. I don't do that. That's demonized kind of stuff. I don't let that in my house.' And he was like, 'It's not really demons.' And then I was like, 'That's the white man trying to take people's souls out of their bodies and opening their brains. That sounds like some demon stuff to me!
Looks like Tiffany Haddish just couldn't get over the horror genre and the plot of Get Out, and therefore decided not to audition for Jordan Peele at the time. It doesn't seem like she regrets the choice, although now one has to wonder how Haddish might have performed in the role.
Tiffany Haddish's comments come from her most recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers are sure to surprise cinephiles, as Get Out was one of the biggest successes of last year. Considering how the cast of characters was assembled, smart money says that Haddish was going to be up for the role of Georgina, who was ultimately played by frequent Blumhouse collaborator Betty Gabriel.
Playing Georgina no doubt would have been a challenge for Tiffany Haddish, considering how many layers the character had to it. The creepy maid turned out to be hiding a big secret: she was actually the Armitage's grandmother in an innocent black woman's body. Betty Gabriel had some thrilling sequences, especially when Georgina denies she's unhappy while unwillingly weeping. Check out the scene below.
While Tiffany Haddish may have passed on the chance to audition for Get Out, it's clear that her career is only going up from here. She's currently got seven different movies in the works as well as a series regular role in The Last O.G., so Haddish is certainly keeping busy. Considering that she and Jordan Peele have a good relationship, perhaps she'll get involved in his next project.
Both Get Out and Girl's Trip are available for home purchase. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
