A Wrinkle In Time's Honest Trailer Highlights The Movie Being Super Trippy

With the summer blockbuster season now upon us, trippy visuals and bizarre special effects are to be expected, such as the ones seen in films like Avengers: Infinity War and Solo: A Star Wars Story. That said, Disney brought us another movie that fits that description even earlier this year in the form of Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle in Time. The film turned out to be one of the trippiest silver screen outings in recent memory, and a brand new Honest Trailer has debuted to point out just how weird it truly was.

Acid directly to the eyeballs pretty much sums it up. As this Honest Trailer lays out, A Wrinkle in Time took some pretty bold creative swings with its visual storytelling and married those swings to some odd narrative choices about a young girl learning self-acceptance. Though some moments are directly lifted from the source material, the visual representation of a giant Oprah Winfrey to Reese Witherspoon turning into something resembling a leaf-like Pokemon.

Of the pieces of commentary shown in the Honest Trailer, one of the most hilarious of the bunch is the comparisons made between the prison of Alex Murry (Chris Pine) and the backdrop of Drake's famous "Hotline Bling" music video.

Then there's the matter of the film's numerous profound quotes about life, light, belonging and love. Thematically speaking, they all definitely line up with the movie's core message, but this video makes a point to skewer the fact that they also sometimes feel more like Instagram captions than anything else. Again, these are elements rooted in the source material, but the film's take on them is insanely trippy in execution, and that's largely by design.

Of course, one other thing that this video addresses about A Wrinkle in Time is the fact that it was not a hit when it premiered earlier this year. In a rare miss for Disney, the film actually underwhelmed at the box office and is currently sitting with a "Rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes after receiving a mixed response from critics. A Wrinkle in Time has been attempted in movie form before, but it looks like the property has yet to truly hit with audiences.

That's the Honest Trailers take on A Wrinkle in Time, but there are plenty more films on the horizon this year that will likely be worthy of a spoof.
