Captain Marvel Directors Agree Carol Should Team Up With This MCU Character

After debuting in her solo movie, Captain Marvel finally got to meet the rest of the MCU in Avengers: Endgame. While she ultimately didn't have a very large part, fans were still happy to see Carol with the Avengers. However, there's one character above all others that fans really want Carol to team up with, and that's Valkyrie. The paring is popular on the internet and the directors of Captain Marvel, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, told CinemaBlend they'd love to see the two heroes team up some day.

While Captain Marvel made a very large billion dollar-sized first impression, Valkyrie made her debut in Thor: Ragnarok. Played by Tessa Thompson, Valkyrie quickly became a fan favorite character. Seeing as they are two of the most physically strong female characters, it's no wonder fans want to see a team-up.

Stars Brie Larson and Tessa Thompson have also been cheering for a team up between their characters. So when CinemaBlend's own Eric Eisenberg asked Captain Marvel co-directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck which character they'd like to see Carol team with in the future, they went for the obvious choice.

Ryan Fleck: There's been a lot of... look, I have no idea what the plans are for the future. But the speculation online about Carol and Valkyrie teaming up, I think, is a pretty cool, pretty cool idea.Anna Boden: She's one of my favorite women of Marvel.

Part of the joy of the MCU is pairing wildly different personalities together and seeing what sticks. It's how we got grade-A team ups like Thor and Rocket or Tony Stark and Doctor Strange. While only a handful of people know what the future of the MCU looks like, there's every possibility that Captain Marvel and Valkyrie will cross paths one day.

While Captain Marvel and Valkyrie would kick a lot of butt together, one hope for the pairing is romantic. There's no love interest in Captain Marvel, and some fans have identified queer themes in the film. While Carol's sexuality has yet to be addressed in the MCU, this is the internet, and it didn't take long for people to start pairing Carol up with Valkyrie, who was almost confirmed to be bisexual in Thor: Ragnarok.

Whether that's a romantic pairing is anyone's guess at this point. Marvel has promised that more LGBTQ characters are on the way, with rumors circulating that the first openly gay character will appear in The Eternals.

The future is a little unclear for these two characters, as Marvel Studios has yet to make any official announcement on its Phase 4 slate of films. Timothe Chalamet is on a hot streak, fresh off an Oscar nomination for Call Me By Your Name. But just a few years ago he was a virtual unknown, thrilled that his second feature film project would be Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. Chalamet co-starred as teen Tom, younger version of Casey Affleck's character Tom Cooper, son of Matthew McConaughey's Coop. During an Actors on Actors talk with Emma Stone, Chalamet admitted he got very emotional watching the film -- and not for reasons one might expect. Here's how that conversation played out:

Timothe Chalamet: When I did Interstellar, I saw that 12 times in theaters in IMAX. ... Christopher Nolan had a screening at Lincoln Square and he invited just some of the people from the cast, which is surreal because it's a huge IMAX theater. But it was me, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and John Lithgow. And I really had no career at this point, so I was like the fraud a little bit in this room. And I saw it and I loved it, but then I went home with my dad and wept for an hour.Emma Stone: Why?Timothe: Because I just figured my part was bigger. They didn't even cut anything. I just figured... I don't know what I figured.[Emma Stone suggested it just felt so giant when he was doing it, and he agreed.]Timothe: Also, I had this monologue in space that's like [Matthew] McConaughey's most brilliant acting in the movie, where he's getting those video logs and he starts weeping. It's really amazing. The whole thing plays on him, as it should, 'cause it's about him. But I'm in the theater and I'm like [anguished].Emma: 'I had incredible stuff here!'

If I ever wept over a film role being smaller than I imagined, I would not announce it. Not even to a friend. I'd take it to my grave. But that's part of why fans are so charmed by Timothe Chalamet. He's a heart-on-his-sleeve kinda guy, and shared it all to Emma Stone in their Variety chat. And at least he understood why director Christopher Nolan chose to show that scene from Matthew McConaughey's perspective. McConaughey's crying scene became a meme, because it really does perfectly capture feeling ALL the feels.

It may have crushed Timothe Chalamet to see his big Interstellar monologue moment turned into a moment for Matthew McConaughey, but all he had to do was wait just a few years for his own time in the spotlight. From Lady Bird and Call Me By Your Name to Beautiful Boy and the upcoming Little Women and The King, Chalamet is just about everywhere these days. And he's only 22. He's just getting started.

Timothe Chalamet was just nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 76th Golden Globe Awards for his role in Beautiful Boy. We'll have to see if that will also inspire the Academy Awards to give him another nod.

Spoilers have become a fairly significant issue among huge film franchises, and studios routinely have to find ways to try and avoid spoilers, even in innocuous products like toys or via script leaks -- not all of which are successful. With that in mind, one of the biggest blockbusters of 2018 that's potentially ripe for spoilers is Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War. The two directors went to great lengths to avoid spoilers, and now it seems they included numerous fake scenes in the script to help stave off such leakage. Vision actor Paul Bettany opened up in a recent interview and explained:

When I read the script there were fake scenes in it. I got the directors on the phone and they walked me through what were the fake scenes. They'd had three leaks already, so they'd written a script with lots of fake scenes. There were three Hero iPads that had the only real script on them.

It's no secret that Avengers: Infinity War is quite literally going to be one of the biggest movies of all time. Bringing together the most prominent ensemble of comic book heroes ever assembled, the sheer number of moving parts makes the film an easy target for leaks, which apparently happened three times in the past, per the Total Film interview. To combat this issue, Joe and Anthony Russo flooded the cast and crew with fake scripts and scenes, and only kept Infinity War's authentic screenplay on a trio of iPads. As a result, Paul Bettany needed Joe and Anthony Russo to walk him through the authenticity of certain scenes over the phone.

One thing not highlighted in Paul Bettany's remark is whether or not the folks behind Avengers: Infinity War actually filmed any fake scenes to include in the movie's marketing campaign. It's clear the directors wanted to prevent further leaks on a script level, but we still don't quite know how far they were willing to go once the cameras started rolling.

This method of actually adding fake scenes to the Avengers: Infinity War script seems like the next logical step after what the Russo Brothers have done to maintain the secrecy of their other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Specifically, the duo made headlines while working on Captain America: Civil War by not allowing the actors to take script pages home after a day of shooting. The performers used on a given day would shoot their respective scenes and turn them in at the end of the day.

In fact, that trend was seemingly continued with Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland in Infinity War, as the actor recently revealed that he was not allowed to get a script for the film because he couldn't keep a secret. Now, it also looks like they have taken things to the next level by purposely throwing fake scenes and story arcs to the performers.

No matter what, we will see all of Avengers: Infinity War's real scenes come together when the film finally premieres in theaters later this year on May 4. Until then, make sure to watch out for Ryan Coogler's Black Panther later this month on February 16.
