The Raunchy Deadpool 2 Joke Ryan Reynolds Thought The MPAA Would Force Them To Cut
In the first Deadpool movie, Wade Wilson sliced off his own hand so he could get out of the handcuffs Colossus had put on him and escape the metal-skinned mutant's custody. The downside of that move was that it takes a while for Wade fully grow back a hand, leading to one amusing moment when the Merc with the Mouth touches Blind Al's face with a baby-sized hand. Deadpool 2 twisted that gag by blowing by blowing up Wade's legs instead, requiring him to walk around with baby legs for a spell. That later led to a moment in the sequel where Wade crossed his freakishly small legs Basic Instinct-style, but Ryan Reynolds was anticipating that the Motion Picture Association of America would request that this joke be removed. As Reynolds noted:
I didn't know if I was going to have to go down and arbitrate with the MPAA and explain that's my tiny dick and balls, not CGI. But it wasn't a problem.
Basic Instinct is one of the more well known movies of the 1990s, and the scene when Sharon Stone crossed her legs and exposed all to the camera has been referenced and parodied many times over in the years since. Deadpool 2 put its own spin on that cinematic moment after Wade Wilson lost his legs during the mission to protect the young Russell Collins from Cable on the prison-transfer convoy, but as Ryan Reynolds recalled to THR, he was worried that the baby legs-crossing joke would have to be cut in order for the movie to get a theatrical release. Even if you ignore all the violence in the Deadpool movies, they definitely earn their R ratings for humor, but even Reynolds acknowledged that the baby legs crossing was one of the raunchiest moments, and I can't blame him for worrying about if it would be kept in.
Deadpool 2 still had to cut a few moments in order to screen to the masses (like the Merc with the Mouth going back in time to kill baby Hitler), but like its predecessor, the sequel managed to pack in a lot of ridiculous and crude humor. And in case the theatrical release wasn't enough for you, Deadpool 2's home release will also include the Super Duper [email protected]%!#& Cut, which has 15 minutes of deleted scenes. As for what the future holds in store for Wade Wilson, while Deadpool 3 is in development, the mercenary anti-hero will return alongside Cable and Domino for X-Force next, which is being written and directed by Drew Goddard.
